Exploring PH/EV Friendly Routes Across Canada
About Me
Hi, I’m Nathan — the creator of Energized Drives, a blog and eventual video series exploring PHEV travel and EV-friendly routes across Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. I used to drive a fully electric vehicle and loved the experience. But after facing a potential family emergency 400 km away — and realizing I couldn’t get there without stopping to charge — I decided to switch to a plug-in hybrid. Not because I feared range limitations, but because I needed unlimited flexibility when life demanded it.
Now I drive a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid, which gives me the best of both worlds: electric savings for daily driving, and gas-powered freedom when the situation calls for it — whether it’s a long-haul trip or just an unexpected detour.
While EV infrastructure is growing, rural and remote areas still face frustrating gaps in charging availability — especially outside major corridors. That lack of consistent coverage played a big role in my decision to go plug-in hybrid, and it continues to shape how I plan routes and evaluate travel readiness for others. It’s something I watch closely and advocate to improve, especially for drivers trying to rely solely on electric power.
Energized Drives is about real-world electrified travel — with a focus on cost-efficiency, rural exploration, and practical tips for both PHEV and EV drivers. I highlight scenic routes, local attractions, budget-friendly road stops, food reviews at local diners, and charging stations, especially the free and lesser-known ones.
